Christie Walk - Adelaide inner-City
Located on a 1,500 square metre site, with mild temperature
ranges in Winter between 7
and 15 Degrees Celsius, and between 19 and 32 Degrees
in summer, this inner-City Adelaide
development is a remarkable example of energy efficient
design and sustainable attitude.
Every building incorporates high thermal mass to help
store that much needed winter heat,
double glazing on most windows to keep the heat in and
some have clerestorey roofs to
maximise daylight and vent warm air to the rear of the
dwellings. The designers incorporated
extensive use of recycled materials and each residence
has solar hot water. A roof garden
mounted collective photovoltaic array will be a feature
of the apartment building.
This is a City development that uses very high levels
of insulation and thermal mass with a
range of orientation and ventilation options to create
medium to high density climate
responsive dwellings. The site includes 2 and 3 storey
straw-bale cottages, 3 storey row town
houses and 6 apartments. Only recycled and plantation
timbers have been used in the
construction and Various climate response configurations
have been employed. No fossil-fuel
is fired for heating or airconditioning. The houses are
naturally warmed and cooled to create
a naturally comfortable lifestyle for the occupants.
